Nino Scimeca was born on July 20, 1957 in the village of Bolognetta a provence of Palermo Sicily. He studied at The academy of Fine Arts in San Martino delle Scale and The Academy of Art in Palermo, Italy. His world is oneiric, surreal and a constant daydream, full of symbolisms pertaining to the knowledge of man, and the thousand “whys” of his existence, in a cosmic, moral and intellectual sense. He expresses his painting in a meditative way, but suffers from his own intellectual tension, with lines and signs that search for the subjective one, “beautiful” and aesthetically.

……............................…………….Statement
………………… Painting…….why? i don’t know how many time i phrase and rephrase to me this question.
Hedonism?, that ancient, instinctive and strong way to have pleasure? ……..exaggerated exhibition for showing my ( presumed) ability justified (perhaps) by former times in which I swallowed strong technical criticism? …….Intense necessity of communications ? ……extreme desire to shout what is in me?
All of this…. now , technically, a hand “ is “ a hand, a head is a head and i’m conscious of my “normal” hedonism, I’m conscious of my necessity of communications, but I feel there is “other”….but so, what’s moving me?
…..that delicate, pungent, intricate desire to stimulate mental tickle about human being , his origin about interior essence, his passage by a physical life with a conscience of his interior cosmic perception of being something of indefinable ….. part of some other.
My paintings revolves around human being, with his metaphysical nudity. A nude man is only a “man”, in which is, surely more easy, seeing deep meanings without interference. The cloths had determined a human genre camouflaged about the conventions developed throughout the centuries, but the nude man is from the origin “nude” with his powerful cosmic sense , and after….how about the eternal, classic, fascinating concept of “bello” with his involving plastic shape of human body?
Plastic forms in human being with even physical sensations: felicity, sadness, ache, gaiety, apathy……by the way like .... one of the last oil painting works “Cupido on the human apathy” yes! Cupido, strong, with his physical presence that embraces the concept of a powerful mythological figure able to upset that recurring common sense of apathy tormenting part of new generation.
The atmosphere has not to be so much heavy in my works, so often a light shows a hope like in oil painting “still a light”, in which many lamps are broken ( represent the error of human genre) but still a light shines to remember a living hope.
In all of this representations what kind of medium I could use? Oil, just marvellous ancient oil, with his nuance, that gives life to my figures, and “velatura” after “velatura” ( ancient technique used first time by Leonardo da Vinci consisting in many layers of dilute oil colour interacting by themselves for the final effect) I go, like a director on movie, to make a show on canvas….i am on the moon now…slowly I have to come back to the earth….. putting my feet on the land …thinking that I am a professional painter …..have to sell but even to share emotions coming from my paintings; the best payment is seeing normal people ( person not involved directly in art, like critics ,art seller, and so on) going into my oil painting scene and, like a daydream, living the intense atmosphere created in there. The very, enormous trouble today for art is the absence of a “common language” about artist and “normal” people, that cause estrangement, detachment, each other. Art, considering his universal meanings, is art for all who want to feel it, and the fine art painter, with his visual work is involved on decrease the distance. My dream? Leaving a trace ..even if no one will remember your name…no matter….will remain your trace anyway ..your message on the human highway...like all men should do....and if ..one day ..in a dusty loft of some old house , a child looking for some junk to play with, will find out an old canvas with my name on……and looking at it he will feel what I felt……I will been paid for my efforts……
